The murder case against Daniel Billings, accused of killing Molly Ticehurst in Forbes, New South Wales, has been adjourned for seven weeks. The decision was made in Parkes local court on Friday, 16 months after Ticehurst's death.
Billings' Legal Aid solicitor, Diane Elston, requested the adjournment, stating that negotiations between defence and prosecution are ongoing. Magistrate Brett Thomas granted the delay, noting it was in the interests of the community, the victim's family, the defendant and the Crown. He directed prosecutors to contact Ticehurst's family to explain the situation.
Billings, Ticehurst's former boyfriend, had been on bail for charges including sexual assault and stalking when the alleged murder occurred on 22 April 2024. He faces a total of 17 charges, including breaching an apprehended violence order. Additional charges of aggravated sexual assault were laid in December 2024.
Following Ticehurst's death, New South Wales introduced legal changes, including removing registrars' power to grant bail in domestic violence cases and establishing a dedicated bail division in the local court.
