Model's Dubai Nightmare: Scalped, Beaten and Left for Dead After Party
Model scalped and left for dead after Dubai party attack

A young Ukrainian model who was viciously assaulted and left for dead on a roadside in Dubai has spoken out about her long road to recovery, ten months after the horrific attack that nearly killed her.

A Dream Trip Turns Into a Nightmare

In March of last year, 21-year-old Maria Kovalchuk travelled to Dubai with hopes of advancing her modelling career. Instead, the trip ended in catastrophe. The adult content creator was discovered in a coma by the roadside, having suffered a broken spine and leg from what was initially described as a "fall from a height".

Shockingly, her hair had been crudely shorn with a knife and she had been scalped. Maria had been missing for a week before she was found. She required ten major operations, including three on each leg, two on her spine, and one on her shoulder blade.

Mystery and Threats Surround the Attack

The exact circumstances of the assault remain shrouded in mystery. Initial reports, based on friends' testimonies, feared Maria had fallen victim to a notorious "Porta Potty" party—events where wealthy men allegedly pay to abuse and degrade women. However, Maria has stated she was tortured by wealthy Russians at a three-day party, not by local sheikhs.

She recalls meeting a man in the lobby of the Five Jumeirah Village hotel after missing a flight. He offered her a place to stay and a private jet to Thailand, leading her to a party. The atmosphere turned violent, with men becoming aggressive, smashing bottles, confiscating her passport, and making intimidating sexual hints.

Maria claims she tried to flee and hid at a construction site, but the men found her. "They practically tore the skin off her scalp, then threw her off a ledge onto the road," one account states. She has almost no memory of the violence itself, and critical CCTV footage was automatically erased after three months, leaving no evidence.

Despite the severity of her injuries, which a surgeon said could not have been accidental, no one has been brought to justice. The accused Russians deny any involvement. In a disturbing twist, after speaking publicly, Maria's mother, Anna, received a threatening message stating, "We'll find you even in Norway."

Rebuilding a Life Shattered by Violence

Maria has undergone extensive rehabilitation as a war refugee in Trondheim, Norway, where her mother lives. From months in a wheelchair, she has proudly shown herself learning to walk again, though she bears a large facial scar.

"At first, I felt literally shattered, like a broken doll," Maria told her followers. She wondered how she would live with her disfigurement and find love again. "But over time, my perception of the world began to change... I started paying more attention to my inner self," she explained, crediting the support of loved ones for her healing.

Her colossal medical bills, reportedly amounting to millions, were fully covered by Dubai police—a detail her family highlights amid suggestions of a cover-up. As she rebuilds her life, Maria has started a new career teaching makeup.

The Broader Danger of 'Porta Potty' Parties

While Maria denies UAE citizens were involved, her case has cast a renewed spotlight on the very real danger of so-called Porta Potty parties in Dubai. These events, allegedly orchestrated by ultra-wealthy men on yachts and in hotels, centre on degrading sexual humiliation.

Australian adult content creator Kay Manuel warned that promoters lure influencers with promises of gifts and luxury, only to subject them to "unthinkable things." She knows of another Australian woman who needed reconstructive surgery after a similar event.

Radha Stirling, CEO of Detained in Dubai, highlighted the legal peril for victims. Even non-consenting women could face charges of adultery or indecency in the UAE. "Women think they’re attending a private party - instead, they’re thrown into horrific, dangerous situations with real legal risk," she said.

Maria's mother, Anna, summarised the attack's brutality: "When young men have money and no boundaries, they found themselves a 'pet', someone they could torment... And then at some point, it crossed a line." For Maria Kovalchuk, the physical and psychological scars of that line being crossed remain, even as she strives to rise from the ashes.
