Third Teenage Girl Raped and Burned Alive in India in One Week

A 16-year-old girl has been raped and burned alive in Madhya Pradesh, India, marking the third such attack on a teenager in a week. The girl died from burns after being set alight by a 26-year-old man who acted after she threatened to tell her family about the rape.

Police in Sagar district arrested two suspects, including the girl's cousin who allegedly informed the main suspect that she was alone at home. The main accused is married with a child.

The attack follows similar incidents in Jharkhand state a week ago, where two other teenagers were raped and burned. One died, and the other remains in hospital.

The cases have intensified pressure on Indian authorities to address sexual violence, particularly after the gang rape and murder of an eight-year-old Muslim girl in Jammu and Kashmir sparked protests. These attacks are among the most high-profile since the 2012 Delhi bus rape and murder.
