Megan McKenna confronts machete burglars in home

Reality star Megan McKenna has revealed the terrifying moment she confronted machete-wielding burglars who broke into her home in London in 2024. The former TOWIE star was asleep when the gang hacked a hole into her locked bedroom using baseball bats.

Alone in the house

The 33-year-old, who has also appeared on Celebrity Big Brother, was alone at the couple's home while her husband, footballer Oliver Burke, was playing in the Bundesliga with Werder Bremen. Burke, 29, had a six-month loan at Celtic in 2019.

Speaking on Jamie Laing's Good Company podcast, Megan described waking to find her house shaking. She said: "I must have fallen asleep within the first 15 minutes. I woke up to my whole house shaking. I was such a disorientated mess."

Hacking through the wall

She explained that she locks her bedroom door every night when alone, but the intruders managed to break through a fake wall connecting her dressing room to the bedroom. "They're three masked men with machetes and baseball bats, and they managed to hack a hole in my wall because it was a fake wall going onto my dressing room, linked to my bedroom," she said.

Fearing for her dog, Megan confronted the gang despite being told by police not to speak to them. She said: "I went over to them. I was naked. I was talking to this man in a balaclava, and he grabbed my hand and he took jewelry off of me."

Arrests and release

The police quickly caught up with the masked gang and arrested them. Megan believes the attack was targeted but was too afraid to attend court. She said: "It was obviously targeted. [The police] wanted me to go on trial. And I just said to them, like, I actually can't physically do that. Go through it."

The men were jailed but Megan was horrified to learn they were released not long into their sentence. She said: "They got caught, and then they went on trial, and then a year later, they just got let out. They're just roaming the roads."

Impact on her life

Megan added: "It scared me so much to be in the UK and to live in the UK on my own, because obviously Ollie's in Germany."

Oliver, who has been capped 29 times for Scotland but wasn't called up for Steve Clarke's World Cup squad this year, married Megan in 2023. The couple share a son.
