A man who threatened his ex-partner despite three court orders banning any contact has been jailed for 14 months. Daniel Dodds warned the woman he would break her neck if he found out she was seeing anyone else.
Threats and Breaches
Dodds, 34, admitted threatening or abusive behaviour while attempting to contact his ex-partner at her home in Burnbank Street, Coatbridge, on May 30. He also admitted breaching three non-harassment orders imposed between December 2024 and September last year. One order was for 10 years.
Airdrie Sheriff Court heard his partner had blocked him from online contact, but despite that she and her daughter received messages. The girl then answered a video call from Dodds.
Court Proceedings
During this his ex-partner asked him to stop contacting her and her children. Jack Lindsay, prosecuting, said Dodds told her: "I'll break your neck if you go and meet guys. Get the police involved and I'll kill you."
Police officers questioned Dodds the next day. He told them his ex-partner had been "bombarding" him with emails while he was in prison. Dodds added: "She is using my Facebook account to do stuff. If I wanted contact I would be over at her house."
Sentencing
Defence lawyer Simon Gilmour said Dodds had formed the impression that the woman wanted contact. But the solicitor pointed out: "That contact has now ceased. He has to move on from this woman."
Passing sentence, Sheriff Paul Haran said Dodds has a "terrible" criminal record, in particular for defying court orders. As well as jailing him, the sheriff imposed a fresh 10-year non-harassment order.
