Leonna Mayor announces split from rugby star Stuart Hogg after 11 months with son
Leonna Mayor splits from disgraced rugby star Stuart Hogg

Sky Sports and ITV racing presenter Leonna Mayor has publicly announced her separation from former Scotland rugby international Stuart Hogg, almost a year after the birth of their first child.

Social Media Announcement Ends Speculation

Mayor, 35, shared the news directly with her followers on Instagram on Friday, stating she was "no longer with Stuart". The former jockey addressed the frequent questions about her personal life, writing: "Now seems as good a time as any. Lots of you guys asking about my situation and life recently."

She chose not to elaborate on the details of the split, emphasising her preference for privacy. "I'm not one to discuss other people's lives so won't add detail," Mayor explained. "We'll just say it's just me and Teddy. It has been for a while now so I am in a position to be able to talk about our future."

A Relationship Overshadowed by Scandal

The couple's relationship timeline has been complex and marked by controversy. They went public in November 2023, a matter of days after Hogg's ex-wife, Gillian, gave birth to their fourth child.

A year later, in 2024, Stuart Hogg pleaded guilty to domestic abuse against Gillian. The 33-year-old, considered one of Scotland's greatest rugby players and a three-time British and Irish Lions tourist, avoided a jail sentence but his reputation was severely damaged.

Mayor and Hogg's son, Teddy, was born in February 2025 in a French hospital, weighing just 4lb 6oz. The family had been living in France where Hogg plays for Top 14 club Montpellier, having reversed his initial retirement from rugby.

Hogg's Past Struggles and Hopes for the Future

In a recent interview, Hogg opened up about his mental health struggles during the period leading to his brief retirement. "I gave up on my rugby career to try to save my marriage," he told the Rugby Paper. "At the time, I didn't know who I was... I used alcohol to escape. I was purely existing."

He claimed to now be in a better place, stating: "I'm in a better place mentally than I've been in years... I hurt people. Now, I'm learning to be selfless for the right reasons - for my kids, my partner, my team." He also expressed the difficulty of being separated from his children while playing in France.

For her part, Mayor struck a positive and forward-looking tone in her announcement, focusing on her son and career. "New year. Fresh start. Me and the most precious thing," she wrote. "Lots of exciting things planned in life and work coming up."
