Scottish influencer Ellie Crampsie, who was jailed for smuggling cannabis worth up to £151,000 into the UK, has been spotted at a music festival just four months into her sentence. The 23-year-old from Broomhouse, Glasgow, was seen enjoying the Colourfest dance festival at Glasgow's Braehead waterfront on August 15 and 16.
Jailed for cannabis smuggling
Crampsie was sentenced to 16 months in prison in April after Border Force officers found over 17kg of Class B drugs in her luggage at Edinburgh Airport. The haul, discovered on April 16 last year, consisted of 17 vacuum-sealed packages of cannabis with a total value estimated at between £115,000 and £151,000.
The brand promoter admitted being concerned in the supply of drugs at Edinburgh Sheriff Court in March. She claimed an ex-boyfriend forced her into carrying the drugs, a defence accepted by Sheriff Graeme Watson, who noted she was "naive and potentially taken advantage of".
Festival appearance and social media
Photos of Crampsie at the festival were posted on her Instagram account, marking her first new post since her sentencing in April. She has also posted 25 videos on TikTok since August 9.
It is understood she remains in the care of the Scottish Prison Service and has been released on Home Detention Curfew (HDC), requiring her to wear a tag. The usual curfew is between 7.30pm and 7.30am, with those on HDC required to stay at an approved address during these times and comply with licence conditions.
Court details and sentencing
At her sentencing hearing, Sheriff Watson said: "You have pled guilty to by way of a section 76 of being concerned in the supply of cannabis, a Class B drug." He added: "You were stopped by border control officers with a suitcase containing over 17 kilograms of cannabis in vacuum sealed packages with a street value of up to £151,000."
The sheriff accepted there was a "lesser degree of culpability" and noted: "Your role was one of carrying the cannabis in your luggage and I accept there was a power imbalance in the relationship." He described her conduct as "reckless" but accepted she had been "naive and potentially taken advantage of", before imposing the 16-month custodial sentence.
Fiscal depute Emma Laing told the court: "She was asked the usual questions by the officer and she confirmed she had traveled from Thailand. Her luggage was opened and a number of vacuum packages were within."
A Scottish Prison Service spokesperson said: "We do not comment on individuals. We only release those in our care on a Home Detention Curfew after a careful and considered assessment of risk and with appropriate monitoring and restrictions in place."
