EastEnders actor Juhaim Rasul Choudhury has spoken out about the harrowing moment he was violently mugged at knifepoint, an experience that has left him deeply traumatised and struggling with anxiety.
The actor, who plays Felix Baker on the popular BBC soap, was attacked while walking through central London in an incident that has dramatically impacted his mental health and daily life.
The Terrifying Ordeal
Choudhury described being surrounded by a group of assailants who threatened him with a knife before stealing his personal belongings. "I was just walking and then suddenly I was surrounded," he recalled during an emotional interview.
The psychological impact has been severe, with the actor revealing he now suffers from heightened anxiety and finds it difficult to walk alone, especially after dark. The physical injuries from the attack have healed, but the mental scars remain deeply embedded.
Life After the Attack
Since the traumatic incident, Choudhury has noticed significant changes in his behaviour and mental state:
- Constant vigilance and anxiety when walking in public
- Difficulty trusting strangers in crowded areas
- Ongoing psychological therapy to process the trauma
- Changed routines to avoid potentially dangerous situations
The actor emphasised that while the material losses were replaceable, the sense of safety and security he once took for granted has been profoundly shaken.
A Message to Other Victims
Choudhury hopes that by sharing his story, he can help others who have experienced similar traumas. "It's important to talk about these things and not suffer in silence," he stated, encouraging victims of violent crime to seek professional support.
His experience highlights the broader issue of street crime in urban areas and its lasting impact on victims' mental wellbeing long after the physical danger has passed.
