Belfast attempted beheading victim named Stephen Ogilvie

Stephen Ogilvie has been named as the victim of an alleged attempted beheading in Belfast. The 44-year-old suffered devastating injuries during a frenzied knife attack in north Belfast.

Witness accounts of the attack

Witnesses described seeing the suspected knifeman allegedly licking blood from his lips after the assault. Harrowing footage showed the attacker repeatedly slashing at Stephen's face and neck as horrified onlookers screamed, with one heard shouting: 'He's trying to cut his head off.'

Police confirmation of injuries

Police confirmed on Tuesday evening that Stephen had suffered injuries to his eyes as well as slash wounds to his neck and back. Brave bystanders, including young dad Maitiu Mág Tighearnán, known as Matt, helped stop the attack after he returned home from a night out.
