An arrest warrant has been issued for Below Deck Mediterranean star Nathan Gallagher. The 28-year-old allegedly assaulted his ex-girlfriend in December last year.
He was convicted of assault causing actual bodily harm, choking and common assault at a hearing at Burwood Local Court on Tuesday. However, he failed to appear.
Judge Lacy confirmed Gallagher’s immigration records showed he was “overseas” before convicting him in his absence and issuing a warrant for his arrest.
Police appeal for information
New South Wales Police Force have released a warrant for his arrest and shared an appeal on social media. A Facebook post shared his mugshot and wrote: "Have you seen Nathan Gallagher?"
"A warrant has been issued for the 28-year-old’s arrest. He is known to frequent Ermington and Melrose Park, and is believed to be offshore. Anyone with information into his whereabouts is urged not to approach him, but to call Triple Zero (000) immediately."
Sydney police initially arrested Gallagher on December 27 last year. He appeared before a bail court on December 28 and was granted conditional bail. He had pleaded not guilty to all three charges.
Details of the alleged assault
Documents to the police that were obtained by Australia's Daily Telegraph said Gallagher “used one hand to cover the mouth and nose" of his alleged victim. It said they "tried to pull away" but Gallagher “persisted and continued" to cover their mouth, "causing the victim to be unable to breathe at certain times".
It's claimed Gallagher struck the alleged victim with an open palm to the left side of the jaw, which is said to have resulted in pain and swelling, according to the document.
Gallagher recently admitted that he has “made mistakes” but claims to have “evidence” that will offer a different version of events that led to his arrest on domestic violence charges.
Gallagher's response
Speaking to Rolling Stone, he said: "I don’t believe the public has heard the full story surrounding what happened." He added: "What has been publicly reported, however, represents only one side of what was an extremely complicated situation."
He added in his statement: "I am not going to make accusations or release private documents on Instagram. I have kept the evidence and will deal with it through the appropriate channels.
"But I also don’t believe it is fair for one version of events to be presented publicly as though it is the complete story when there is evidence that may materially contradict or provide significant context to that account."
