Six people, including two children, have died in a collision between a car and a motorbike on the A61 in West Yorkshire, police confirmed.
The incident occurred at 3:54pm on the A61 Barnsley Road between Staincross, Barnsley and Newmillerdam, Wakefield. A Ford Focus car and a motorcycle were involved.
Police confirmed that the motorcyclist and pillion passenger, a male and a female, died at the scene. An adult male and female, and two children, a male and a female, travelling in the car also died.
Supt Alan Travis of Wakefield district police described the incident as “absolutely tragic” and said officers are supporting the families of those who died.
The road remains closed between Shaw Lane and Warren Lane. Anyone with information is asked to contact West Yorkshire police on 101.
