Police have confirmed that they are not treating the discovery of a body on a Newcastle housing estate as suspicious. A resident of Great Park reported a large emergency services presence on the estate on Monday afternoon.
The resident said that police had searched a grassy area around Elmwood Park Gardens and recovered a body from the bushes. Officers from Northumbria Police confirmed this morning that a body was found at the popular dog walking spot.
Police say the woman's next of kin have been informed, and a report is being prepared for the coroner.
Police Statement
A spokesperson for the force said: "Just after 2.30pm yesterday (Monday), we received a report of concern for the welfare of a person in Newcastle Great Park. A short time later, the body of a woman was sadly located in the Great Parkway area. Her next of kin have been made aware. There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the woman’s death, and a report will be prepared for the coroner in due course."
Resident's Account
The resident said: "I'm a bit shaken, and I feel sad for the family. We do see police a bit, but to be honest we thought it was antisocial behaviour at first. It turned out to be something much worse."
Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident, but no further details have been released at this time.
