A woman is in a serious condition in hospital after a telegraph pole fell on her near a train station in south Wales on Thursday afternoon.
Incident Details
Two women were taken to hospital following the incident near the car park of Pontyclun railway station at around 1pm on Thursday. The Health and Safety Executive is involved in the investigation.
An eyewitness reported that the incident occurred on the cycle path beside the station. They stated that one of the women, described as elderly, was trapped under the pole.
Public Assistance
Members of the public attempted to help the women at the scene. A female runner remained with the pair until an ambulance arrived.
Emergency services, including South Wales Police officers and paramedics from the Welsh Ambulance Service, attended the scene before the women were transported to University Hospital of Wales.
Current Condition
One of the women has been discharged from hospital, but the other remains in a serious condition.

A spokesperson for the Health and Safety Executive said: “We are aware of the incident and making initial enquiries alongside colleagues from South Wales Police.”
A National Grid spokesperson commented: “We are aware of an incident in Pontyclun on Thursday afternoon and are working closely with the emergency services.”
