Yassim Ahmed, 27, of no fixed abode, has appeared in court charged with attempted rape, sexual assault and theft following an alleged incident in Wallsend last week.
Police reported that a woman had been attacked near St Peter's Road at around 8.45pm last Tuesday.
Court appearance and remand
Ahmed appeared at South East Northumberland Magistrates Court this morning, where the case was sent to Newcastle Crown Court. He will appear there later this month and has been remanded in custody.
Victim support
Police said the alleged victim is being supported by specially-trained officers.
