Two Women Arrested After Man Found Dead in Derelict TGI Fridays

Two women have been arrested on suspicion of murder following the discovery of a man's body in an abandoned TGI Fridays restaurant in Sheffield. South Yorkshire Police responded to reports of suspicious behaviour at the derelict building on Wednesday evening, where they found the body of a 55-year-old man.

Arrests and Investigation

The women, aged 35 and 54, were taken into custody on Thursday (June 11) and remain there for questioning. Formal identification of the victim has not yet taken place, but his relatives have been informed and are being supported by officers.

A cordon remains in place around the site and is expected to stay until Friday evening. DCI Laura Procter, Senior Investigating Officer, said: "Officers have been conducting various enquiries since the man's body was sadly found, with the aim of building up a full picture of the circumstances which led up to this incident."

Appeal for Information

Detectives are appealing for anyone who may have seen suspicious activity near the former TGI Fridays building in the days leading up to Wednesday to come forward. "If you have any information which you think could help us, no matter how big or small, please come forward," added DCI Procter.

Anyone with information is urged to call 101 or report online, quoting incident number 897 of June 10.

TGI Fridays Disassociation

TGI Fridays has distanced itself from the incident, stating that the Sheffield Road site closed in January 2026 and is "no longer owned by the company or any affiliated organisation." The Sheffield branch was one of 16 UK restaurants that closed after TGI Fridays' UK operator went into administration.
