Heartfelt tributes have been placed outside a Darlington pub following the suspected murder of a woman described as 'beautiful, funny and kind-hearted'.
Floral arrangements with accompanying messages pay tribute to the woman, understood to be aged in her 40s and called 'Leanne'. Emergency personnel responded to a residential property in Parkgate, thought to be accommodation above The Greyhound pub, at approximately 9.15pm on Wednesday, 23 September. The woman was tragically declared deceased at the scene.
Arrests Made
Two individuals have been arrested - a 44-year-old man on suspicion of murder and a 27-year-old man on suspicion of assisting an offender. Both suspects remain in police detention.
Tributes have been paid across social media and on notes accompanying bouquets left outside the establishment. One message states: "To our beautiful, funny, kind-hearted, wonderful Leanne. I'm so heartbroken you are gone. Thank you for everything." Another expressed: "To Leanne, taken far too soon. Will never be forgotten."
Police Investigation
Enquiries are ongoing at the location, with a police cordon established on Parkgate, surrounding the vicinity of The Greyhound pub. A representative for Durham Constabulary confirmed in a statement: "A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman was found dead in Darlington last night (Wednesday, September 23)."
"Officers were called to an address in Parkgate at about 9.15pm. Sadly, a woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Formal identification has yet to take place, but it is believed to be a woman in her 40s. An investigation has been launched, and two men have been arrested – a 44-year-old on suspicion of murder, and a 27-year-old on suspicion of assisting an offender."
Appeal for Information
"Both men have been taken into police custody where they remain. Specialist crime scene investigators are currently examining the scene, and officers are carrying out enquiries in the area. A cordon is in place at the scene and is expected to remain for some time."
