Tragedy as 'Kind and Bright' University Student Found Dead at Park
Tragedy: Lancaster University Student Found Dead in Park

A 'kind and bright' university student tragically died after being found in a park in Lancashire, with evidence suggesting he took his own life. Henry Shields, described as an 'incredible friend', was discovered in Williamson Park in Lancaster on May 20 this year. Emergency services rushed to the scene but the 23-year-old was pronounced dead.

Henry, a third-year Chemistry student at Lancaster University, is believed to have taken his own life. An inquest into his death was opened and adjourned at Preston Coroner's Court on June 11. The court heard Henry was born in Preston and his body was identified by his father Chris. Area Coroner Kate Bisset confirmed the cause of death was consistent with suicide.

A final inquest is scheduled for September 17 at Morecambe Town Hall before Assistant Coroner Richard Taylor. Following his death, friends paid tribute to Henry in an online book of condolence published by Lancaster University.
