A 17-year-old boy has died and a murder investigation has been launched after police were called to reports of a possible break-in in Bedfordshire.
Officers responded to what they described as “initial reports of suspicious activity” in Soulbury Road, Linslade, near Leighton Buzzard. The teenager was found unresponsive and was pronounced dead shortly afterwards despite attempts to save him.
Arrests Made
Bedfordshire Police said there was no evidence the victim had been involved in a burglary, and his next of kin have been informed. A man was arrested at the scene and is currently in custody on suspicion of murder. Three other men were also arrested in connection with the incident, which occurred late on Thursday.
The investigation is being led by the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit.
Police Appeal
Detective Inspector Caeva Taylor said: “This is an incredibly tragic incident in which a 17-year-old boy has lost his life and our thoughts are with his loved ones at this unimaginably difficult time.”
“We currently have one person in custody on suspicion of murder, and three other men are also assisting us with our enquiries.”
“Our team is working hard to establish what has led to the boy’s death and we understand the concern this will cause in the community.”
The initial 999 call reported a possible break-in in progress, but enquiries so far have found no evidence the victim was carrying out or attempting a burglary.
Public Assistance Sought
Police have been reviewing CCTV and speaking to local residents. They are urging anyone with information, particularly doorbell or CCTV footage, to come forward.
