David Wynter, 17, who was fatally stabbed in a council headquarters yards from Wembley Stadium, has been pictured for the first time after staff were praised for battling to save him.
The teenager died in an attack that left him lying in Brent Civic Centre on Tuesday afternoon. A 15-year-old boy has been charged with his murder and was due to appear at the Old Bailey today.
Staff praised for response
Council workers and people from the library were evacuated from the offices. But the head of security at the Civic Centre told Metro that his staff had run to the teenager’s aid despite any fears they may have had for their own safety.
He told Metro: ‘The staff dived into help. It was all hands to the pump. I’m very proud of them.’ He added that staff had been offered counselling and support over the incident, which unfolded in the foyer of the library.
Another staff member said: ‘Our security and others were heroes in trying to help the boy. They didn’t run from danger. We are all very proud of them.’
Police investigation continues
The Civic Centre has remained closed since the killing to allow police to collect evidence. They are also trawling through the extensive CCTV footage from the centre and nearby Wembley Stadium.
Witnesses described frantic scenes following the attack. A mother taking her son to an appointment at the council offices told Metro: ‘I was walking down the building and he was literally downstairs in between the library and the foyer.
‘I still feel quite numb because there were many young children around the area when this happened and I cannot stop thinking about how traumatised they may have been. My son saw a female ambulance crew member in tears as we walked out. I think it was at the time he was pronounced dead.’
