Student police officer Mohammad Hassan, 23, has appeared in court accused of raping and kidnapping a woman. He was charged following an incident on Saturday, August 8.
Greater Manchester Police said the incident ended with a 'police pursuit' on the M62. Mr Hassan has been charged with rape; kidnap; strangulation; sexual assault; theft of a mobile phone; and dangerous driving.
Court appearance and charges
He was not asked to enter any pleas during a four-minute hearing at Stockport Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, August 11. The case was transferred to Manchester Crown Court for a hearing on September 15.
Mr Hassan, of Hale Lane, Failsworth, who wore a grey jumper and grey bottoms, was remanded in custody by District Judge James Hulse. The prosecution was represented by Ewan Cooper, and Mr Hassan was represented by Lucy Hicks.
Police statement
In a statement prior to the court hearing, Greater Manchester Police said: "The charges relate to reports made to GMP on the evening of Saturday 8 August which ended in a police pursuit on the M62 in West Yorkshire. A woman was safeguarded at the scene and continues to be supported by specialist officers and support services."
