Police Scotland are investigating the unexplained death of a 49-year-old woman found injured at a property in East Kilbride. Emergency services were called to Ash Avenue in the Greenhills area at around 9.20pm on Tuesday, August 11, and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers have cordoned off part of the street and forensics teams are at the home as enquiries continue.
Businessman Convicted of Voyeurism
A construction boss from Newmilns, Ayrshire, has been convicted of voyeurism after secretly filming a woman during a sexual encounter. Michael Riley, 38, arranged to meet the 39-year-old at a property in Lanarkshire, where they recreated scenes from Fifty Shades of Grey. After sending her footage of the encounter in August 2022, she confronted him, but he laughed and said: "That's what people our age do." Riley denied wrongdoing and went to trial at Hamilton Sheriff Court, where he was found guilty.
Organised Crime Scams Warning
Retailers Against Crime (RAC) launched a UK-wide billboard campaign in Glasgow to raise awareness of scams run by organised crime groups. These include distraction thefts, pickpocketing, purse dipping, and 'shoulder surfing' to steal PIN numbers. Shops are also being urged to watch for customers buying large numbers of high-value gift cards, who may be victims of romance fraud.
Celtic Title Party Raids
Police arrested and charged four men, aged 30, 30, 25, and 21, in raids across Glasgow and Lanarkshire following violent scenes in the Trongate area after Celtic's 3-1 victory over Hearts on May 16. Two officers were seriously injured and three members of the public required hospital treatment. The arrests bring the total number of football fans arrested to 24.
Attempted Murder Charge in Glasgow
A 20-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after an alleged stabbing on Sauchiehall Street. Police were called to a disturbance at 1.35am on Sunday, August 2, and found four people injured. They were taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. The man is due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Wednesday, August 12, and inquiries are ongoing.
