Rochdale murder probe after man dies, woman arrested

An investigation has been launched following the death of a man in Rochdale, with a woman arrested on suspicion of murder.

Emergency crews were called to an address on Great Howarth just before 7.40pm on Tuesday evening (August 11). They went inside the property and found a man who was 'unresponsive'.

Sadly, the 31-year-old was pronounced dead a short time later despite paramedics trying to save him. A 37-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

She remains in custody for questioning. A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said detectives are 'exploring several lines of enquiries in what initially appears to be suspicious circumstances'.

There is not believed to be any risk to the wider public. The man's next of kin has been informed, the force spokesperson added.

Detective Inspector Georgina Fearn, of the Rochdale CID, said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased. Specialist officers are available to support them. An investigation has been launched and whilst we currently have a woman in custody, we are conducting enquires to establish the circumstances which have led to this tragic incident.

"We understand that an incident of this nature may cause concern within the community however we believe there is no wider risk to the public."
