Prince Harry has reportedly been "close to tears" over the UK security problem that has left him unable to secure full-time police protection for his wife Meghan Markle and their children during an upcoming visit. The 41-year-old is set to travel to the UK next week, on July 7, with Meghan and possibly their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Harry has long expressed a desire for his children to spend time in the UK but has previously stated he does not feel they would be safe there without adequate security.
RAVEC Denies Full Police Protection
Last week, it was confirmed that Meghan and the children would join the trip, but shortly after, the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (RAVEC) announced it would not provide full-time police protection during the visit. Despite this, Harry is said to be considering "every available option" to ensure his family can travel with him. King Charles has reportedly offered Harry and his family a royal residence to stay at during the trip, but according to RAVEC, full police protection would not be provided.
Source Reveals Harry's Emotional State
Speaking ahead of the trip, a source told Vanity Fair: "[Harry] was devastated and close to tears. He had assumed that because he was bringing the kids, and the King had made a royal residence available to them, he would get what he has been pushing for all along - full-time police protection. That has not been the case. The King has made it clear that while he wants to see his estranged son and grandchildren, he will not intervene in security matters."
Terrorist Threats Against Harry
Harry's security report, read by ITV News on Wednesday, revealed major terrorist threats, including an al-Qaeda document calling for his assassination. The report found that there are "at least six plots against The Duke from jihadist and right-wing threat actors that have targeted other high-profile Britons." This has heightened concerns for the safety of Harry and his family during the visit.
