Greater Manchester Police have launched a murder investigation following the death of a 50-year-old man in Bolton. The victim was found with serious head and chest injuries at an address on Gray Street on 30 June 2026 and was pronounced dead at the scene.
New Information Leads to Murder Probe
Officers initially responded to the incident on the day, but after a post-mortem and the emergence of new information, detectives from the Major Incident Team have now upgraded the investigation to a murder probe. A 15-year-old boy has been detained under the Mental Health Act and will be questioned in due course.
Police Statement and Public Reassurance
Detective Chief Inspector Louise Edwards of GMP's Major Incident Team said: “Our thoughts remain firmly with the man’s family and friends. Following new information coming to light regarding his death, we are now carrying out enquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding the events of the day he died.”
She added: “We’d like to thank members of the community for their patience and understanding as we carry out enquiries in and around the Gray Street area. There is no information to suggest there is any wider risk to the public, and we are not seeking anyone else in relation to this incident.”
Isolated Incident Confirmed
A GMP spokesperson confirmed in a statement: “Officers believe that this is an isolated incident and that there is no wider risk to the local community.” Police are continuing their investigations and have urged anyone with information to come forward.
