A murder investigation has been launched after a woman's body was discovered at a pub in Darlington town centre. Police were called to the Greyhound pub in County Durham at 9:15pm on Wednesday following reports of an incident.
Despite a large-scale emergency services response, a woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers subsequently arrested two men, aged 44 and 27, in connection with the incident.
Two men arrested
The 44-year-old was arrested on suspicion of murder, while the 27-year-old was taken into custody on suspicion of assisting an offender. Both men remained in police custody as of Thursday afternoon, authorities confirmed.
The Greyhound pub remains cordoned off, with specialist investigators at the scene as part of the ongoing murder probe.
Investigation ongoing
Durham Constabulary said officers would be carrying out enquiries in the area. Formal identification of the victim has yet to take place, but she is believed to be a woman in her 40s.
A police spokesperson said: "Anyone with information is asked to call Durham Constabulary on 101, quoting incident number 521 of September 23."
