Cleveland Police have launched a murder investigation after two people died in a house fire in Grangetown, near Middlesbrough. Four other people were injured in the incident on Birchington Avenue on Wednesday morning.
Emergency response and injuries
Officers were called to the scene shortly before 5.30am. A fleet of fire engines attended the blaze, and roads in the area were closed.
Police said they “cannot rule out any links to wider organised crime at this time”.
Possible organised crime links
The fire occurred around two miles from the A66 crash that killed five young men and two police officers on Saturday morning. Police have previously said the five young men may have had links to “serious and organised criminal activity”.
