Murder Probe After Man Found Dead in Cumbernauld

Police Scotland have launched a murder investigation following the death of a 45-year-old man in Cumbernauld. The body of John McMonigle was discovered at a property on Glenhove Road around 9:20am on Wednesday, July 15, 2026.

Post-Mortem Confirms Murder

Emergency services were called to the scene and found Mr McMonigle with serious injuries. A post-mortem examination has since confirmed that his death is being treated as murder. Detective Chief Inspector Laura Young, senior investigating officer from the Major Investigation Team, said: “Our thoughts are with Mr McMonigle’s family at what is an extremely difficult time for them. They are being supported by specially trained officers and have asked for their privacy to be respected.”

Police Appeal for Information

Detectives have conducted door-to-door enquiries in the area and are urging anyone with information to come forward. DCI Young added: “A dedicated team of officers is working to establish the full circumstances and they have already spoken to a number of people in the area. Door-to-door enquiries are continuing. We are asking anyone who saw Mr McMonigle on the morning of his death or the previous day to get in touch if they have not already spoken to officers. Likewise, if you saw anything suspicious.”

“We are also asking the public to check any private CCTV they might have and dash-cam footage to see if something has been captured that could assist with our investigation.”

Community Reassurance

Police have acknowledged that the incident may cause concern among local residents. DCI Young said: “We understand this incident will be concerning for the local community and officers remain in the area and anyone with concerns can approach them.”
