A murder investigation has been launched after a 55-year-old man was bitten by a dog in West Yorkshire on Saturday (August 15). The incident occurred at 1.36pm on Saturday, August 15, when West Yorkshire Police were called to the old trainline footpath off Blacker Lane in Wakefield.
Man dies in hospital
The 55-year-old man was rushed to hospital in a critical condition after being bitten by a dog. He died just after 7pm yesterday evening.
A 55-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of murder and being the owner of a dog dangerously out of control in a public place causing injury. The man is currently in custody.
Police appeal for witnesses
The dog believed by police to have been involved has been seized by the authorities following the incident.
Detective Chief Inspector Michael Cox, of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, said in a statement: "Sadly, a man has died and it is really important that we understand the circumstances of what has taken place."
He added: "We know that two people, one named Sophie, stopped to assist the injured man and direct officers. We would urge these two people to come forward to help us with our ongoing enquiries into this tragic incident."
