Police discovered the bodies of a mother and her two children at a property in Carnoustie Drive, Great Denham, near Bedford, on Monday, July 7, 2026. Officers were called after concerns that the trio had not been seen for several days.
Murder Investigation Launched
Bedfordshire Police confirmed that a murder investigation has been initiated by the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit. Specialist teams are being deployed, and uniformed officers are increasing patrols in the Great Denham area to provide reassurance.
Assistant Chief Constable John Murphy described the incident as "deeply distressing" and stated that a mother and her two children are believed to have been murdered. He added, "Our thoughts are first and foremost with all those affected. We recognise that this will cause concern in the local community and beyond."
Suspect Identified and Believed to Have Left the Country
Police have identified a suspect who was known to all three victims. According to ACC Murphy, the suspect is believed to have left the country since the incident. He emphasised that there is no evidence of any wider risk to the public, but police presence will be increased in the area to support the investigation.
ACC Murphy urged anyone with information about the incident or suspicious activity in Carnoustie Drive, particularly on Friday and Saturday, to come forward. He also asked the public to respect the privacy of the victims and avoid speculation.
