A Ukrainian woman in her thirties is the prime suspect in the Monaco bombing that targeted billionaire Vadim Ermolaev, his mistress Anna Nasobina, and their young son. The suspect, who disguised herself to appear as a man, is considered armed and dangerous and is believed to have fled to Italy.
Attack Details
The explosion occurred just before 9pm on Monday in the foyer of the 'Sun's Palace,' a luxury apartment block owned by Ermolaev. A rucksack was detonated via mobile phone. Nasobina suffered severe injuries requiring leg amputation, while both she and Ermolaev sustained shrapnel wounds and burns. The child, though injured, has recovered rapidly and is providing testimony.
Suspect Description and Escape
According to an investigating source, 'The prime suspect was identified by a witness. She is a Ukrainian woman in her thirties.' Surveillance footage shows her wearing a black bucket hat fleeing on foot across the border into France, then onward to Italy. Authorities believe she may be with accomplices. Interpol is preparing a Most Wanted red notice.
Legal Proceedings
French and Monégasque judicial authorities have opened a criminal inquiry for attempted murder, planting an explosive device on a public road with criminal intent, and criminal conspiracy. The suspect was first seen in the area on Monday morning before returning to plant the bomb.
