Dean Romain, 39, of Manchester, was driving a silver Volkswagen Passat on the M6 southbound near junction 13 in Stafford at around 8am on Monday 13 July when he performed a U-turn on the carriageway. Staffordshire Police officers followed the vehicle and arrested him a short time later.
Court Appearance and Sentence
Romain appeared at the North Staffordshire Justice Centre on Tuesday 14 July, where he pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, and driving without insurance. He was sentenced to 11 months in prison, disqualified from driving for three years and four months upon his release, and ordered to pay a surcharge of £187.
Police Reaction to the Reckless Manoeuvre
Following the sentencing, Sergeant Richard Kimberley of the Staffordshire Police road crime team said: “Romain is clearly a highly dangerous and reckless driver who selfishly put other motorists at risk during rush hour. I am pleased he has been jailed and handed a lengthy disqualification for his actions. We are determined to keep Staffordshire’s road network safe and will do all we can to bring those who risk public safety before the courts.”
