Man jailed for abusing 999 staff and threatening nurse

Adil Sulamen, 38, has been jailed for 13 months after repeatedly abusing 999 call handlers and going on a rampage at a hospital. Liverpool Crown Court heard he made a series of abusive calls to emergency services on June 26, before he was sectioned under the Mental Health Act and taken to hospital.

Hospital Rampage and Threats

Once at the hospital, Sulamen threatened to rape a nurse and caused between £5,000 and £10,000 worth of damage to a ward room by tearing furniture and ripping a sink from the wall. Prosecutor Bethany Lee said he also "remarked he would wait for the nurse until after she finished work and then he would rape her."

His abusive behaviour continued in custody, where he spat on a police officer's head after an officer removed a ligature he had made in his cell.

Defence and Sentencing

His defence said he "was plainly suffering from his mental health at the time," noting he is an Iraqi asylum seeker diagnosed with anxiety and depression who had been given a depot injection - a slow-release antipsychotic medication - days before the offending.

Sulamen called the sentencing judge a "motherf*****" as he was led from the dock.
