"She has now been named as Alisha Samuels, aged 26. At this time, the family have asked for privacy whilst they deal with the devastating loss of their loved one. We are continuing to urge people who may have information in relation to this incident to please come forward to support our investigation and bring justice for Alisha."

Residents describe shock

Speaking today, a woman who lives opposite the scene of the stabbing spoke about the ordeal. "It's just shocking," she said. "It's really quiet around here, the two avenues in particular. It's such a shame. A young girl like that. We're all shocked and frightened as lots of people around here have got young kids. It's just frightening to think someone has been killed where you live. It's awful."

Another resident described the aftermath of the incident as 'carnage'. Police officers, detectives and CSI teams have been scouring the neighbourhood since the early hours of Thursday morning (October 15). "It's been carnage. People are worried in the area. It's just such a shame, so many lives ruined," they said.

One resident, speaking anonymously, told of how she heard screams that caused her to rush downstairs and open the front door of her house on Briscoe Lane. "It woke me up," they told the MEN. "I heard shouting and screaming. I went outside and saw all the police. They arrested a man, I couldn't see what he looked like because it was dark. They dragged him out of a car after he tried to drive into a police van."

Another resident, who woke up to the sight of police on her doorstep, said: "Believe it or not, I was telling my friend the other day that this is a quiet area. So, this has come as a bit of a shock. I've lived here 30 years and the worst thing we've had was a shooting a long time ago. Apart from that, it's usually quiet."
