A 37-year-old man was found dead three days after complaining to his GP that he did not feel well. Benjamin Huw Fallowfield's death in July last year was likely caused by a natural illness, an inquest at Pontypridd coroners' court has concluded.
No Significant Medical History
Mr Fallowfield, an assistant registrar who lived in Cardiff, did not have any "significant past medical history", said coroner Patricia Morgan. In the week before his death he had felt unwell, with fatigue and low energy, so on July 14 he visited his GP.
Observations were normal but the GP asked him to return for further tests in the following week. On July 17 he was found dead at his home in Cardiff city centre.
Post-Mortem Unable to Identify Cause
"He was sadly in an advanced state of decomposition," said Ms Morgan. "A post-mortem examination was unable to identify a precise medical cause for his death, mainly due to decomposition. However, it was able to exclude trauma. There is no evidence that drugs or alcohol had played a causative role in Mr Fallowfield's death."
The coroner found no evidence of third-party involvement and recorded a conclusion of natural death. The court heard Mr Fallowfield was a married man and had been born in Caerphilly.
