A 47-year-old man has been fined after he was found with his trousers around his ankles, having urinated in front of shocked passengers on a bus in Newcastle.
Darren Marchant, of Greenlaw, in West Denton, was arrested after police located him on board a bus travelling through Lemington. He was due to appear in court charged with a public order offence but did not attend, instead instructing his solicitor to enter a guilty plea on his behalf.
Incident on Moorway Drive
Christopher O'Brien, prosecuting at Newcastle Magistrates' Court, said the offence happened as the bus travelled along Moorway Drive, in Lemington, on October 3 this year. Mr O'Brien added: "The defendant is found on a bus with his trousers around his ankles. His penis is exposed. He's in a sorry state and he's urinated everywhere."
Mark Harrison, defending, said: "Mr Marchant is lucky not to be charged with a more serious matter. He dishevelled and, as is said, was in a sorry state. He's embarrassed and ashamed of himself, as well he should be."
Fine and surcharge
Marchant was fined £100 and must pay a £40 victim surcharge.
