A 33-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder following a disturbance near Queen's Park in Glasgow, which left a 31-year-old man seriously injured.
Incident and response
Police sealed off residential streets around Queen's Park after the alarm was raised on Monday night, August 10. Emergency services responded to reports of a disturbance on Balvicar Drive shortly after 7pm.
A heavy police presence was in place overnight on Pollokshaws Road, and blue tape was erected around Balvicar Street and Queen's Drive, at the Queen's Park Hotel.
Charges and court appearance
The 31-year-old man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital after sustaining serious injuries. Police Scotland confirmed that two men, aged 25 and 33, have been charged in connection with the incident.
John Marshall, the 33-year-old, appeared for a private hearing at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Wednesday. Marshall, of Glasgow, was charged on four counts including assault, assault to severe injury, attempted murder and robbery, assault and attempted robbery, and possession of a bladed weapon in a public place.
He made no plea, was committed for further examination and remanded in custody. He is due to appear in court again in the next eight days. The 25-year-old man will appear at a later date.
Police statement
No further details of the incident were shared by police as enquiries to establish the full circumstances remain ongoing. Photos taken at the scene on Monday night show multiple police vehicles and ambulances parked on the road, with uniformed officers stationed from Strathbungo to the opposite end of the popular park.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Two men aged 33 and 25 arrested following a disturbance in the Balvicar Drive area of Glasgow have now been charged. The incident happened around 7.05pm on Monday, 10 August. A 31-year-old man sustained serious injuries and was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment. The 33-year-old man is due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Wednesday, 12 August, 2026, and the 25-year-old man will appear at a later date."
