Payam Golestani, 28, of Wesley Street, Low Fell, Gateshead, has been charged with impersonating a police officer and possession of an imitation firearm following a disturbance in Gateshead.
Armed police were called to Wesley Street in Low Fell on August 13 after reports of a man allegedly making threats with a firearm. A suspect was later arrested in connection with the report.
Court appearance and charges
Golestani appeared at Newcastle Magistrates’ Court on August 15, where he faced a number of charges. These include possession of an offensive weapon in a public place; possession of a knife or sharp pointed article in a public place; possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence; impersonating a police constable; breach of a sexual risk order; two counts of dangerous driving; two counts of use of a vehicle on a road with a warning beacon when prohibited, and two counts of sounding an unauthorised warning instrument on a vehicle.
Remanded in custody
Following the appearance, Golestani was remanded into custody. He is scheduled to next appear at Newcastle Crown Court on September 14.
