Man charged after 48-hour Salford roof stand-off

A man has been charged after police were involved in a 48-hour roof stand-off in Salford. Simon Harris, 37, of no fixed abode, faces eight offences following the incident on Ash Street.

Incident timeline

The incident began on Thursday evening (August 13) when police, firefighters and paramedics were called to reports of a man on a roof. A cordon was put in place, and specialist police remained in a stand-off with the man throughout Friday and into Saturday morning.

The man was eventually pulled from the roof and arrested on Saturday afternoon.

Charges and court appearance

Harris has been charged with four counts of criminal damage, two counts of assault of an emergency worker, intentionally or recklessly causing a public nuisance, and burglary dwelling and theft.

He has been remanded into custody and is due to appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates' Court today (August 17).
