A 63-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following an alleged axe attack near a canal in west London.
The incident happened at around 10.20pm on Tuesday, 4 August, near Clitheroe’s Lock on the Brentford stretch of the Grand Union Canal.
Police were called to Transport Avenue following reports that a man had been attacked with an axe. The London Ambulance Service also attended.
Victim remains in hospital
The victim, a man in his 40s, was taken to hospital with life-changing injuries and remains there more than a week after the alleged assault.
A Met Police spokesman said: “Around 22:20hrs on Tuesday, 4 August, officers were called to Transport Avenue following reports a man had been assaulted with an axe.
“Officers attended with the London Ambulance Service.
“The victim, a man in his 40s was taken to hospital where he remains with life-changing injuries.
“On Wednesday 12, August officers arrested a 63-year-old man from Brentford on suspicion of attempted murder.
“He remains in police custody.”
Investigation ongoing
The attack allegedly took place close to Lock 99, between Transport Avenue and Boston Manor Park.
Residents reported hearing shouting and screaming around the time of the incident. A Met Police forensic team carried out a detailed search of the towpath, and the area was sealed off by officers.
The incident is not believed to be gang-related.
Scotland Yard urged anyone with information about the alleged attack to call 101, quoting reference 8737/04AUG.
