An inquest has opened into the tragic death of a 22-year-old Blackburn woman who died from severe burn injuries after setting herself on fire.
Shawgar Rasul Hama passed away on May 23 at Wythenshawe Hospital, which houses a specialist burns unit. She had been rushed to the facility following an incident in which she suffered catastrophic injuries.
Details of the Hearing
During a brief hearing at Preston Coroners' Court, Area Coroner Kate Bisset confirmed the initial circumstances surrounding the tragedy. "This lady died as a consequence of burns having set herself on fire," Ms. Bisset stated.
The court heard that Miss Hama was born in Iraq in 2003 and lived at Greenhurst Close in Blackburn. Her body was formally identified to police officers at the hospital using her medical wristband.
Proceedings Adjourned
Following the opening statements, Ms. Bisset adjourned the proceedings. A full, comprehensive inquest to determine the exact circumstances surrounding Miss Hama's death has been scheduled to take place on October 2 at Accrington Town Hall.
