Inquest Opens After Boy, 5, Dies at Wales' Largest Hospital

An inquest has been opened into the death of a five-year-old boy who died at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff earlier this month.

Details of the Incident

Charlie Tomos John Davies, aged five, of Victoria Avenue, Newport, passed away on June 4 after being transferred to the University Hospital of Wales (UHW) from Tŷ Hafan Children's Hospice. The inquest, held at Newport Coroners' Court on Monday, heard that Charlie had a history of breathing problems and was sent to UHW with symptoms including a fever and a decrease in his oxygen levels.

Medical History and Treatment

Charlie was treated for two days until his condition worsened. Coroner Rose Farmer informed the court that Charlie's breathing complications originated from birth. Upon his death, he was formally identified at the hospital by his mother, Lucy Davies.
