An inquest has opened into the deaths of four young men who were killed in a car crash in Merseyside.
Jack Diggle, 23, Benjamin Dooley, 23, Andrew Roberts, 24, and Craig Shackleton-Brady, 26, were pronounced dead at the scene in the early hours of Friday, July 24.
Police called to crash on East Prescot Road
During the inquest opening at Bootle Town Hall on August 12, the court heard that police had been called to reports of a Cupra Formentor coming off the road after crashing into a lamppost on East Prescot Road, in Huyton.
Anita Bhardwaj, senior coroner for Sefton, heard the four men were identified by their dental records and by clothing they were seen wearing in CCTV footage on the evening of Thursday, July 23.
Single-vehicle collision at 1.54am
Coroner's officer Liam Moss told the court the single-vehicle collision happened at 1.54am on the eastbound carriageway of the road. He said: "The collision resulted in the deaths of four of the five occupants of the vehicle."
The cause of death for the four men was given as multiple injuries.
Victims' backgrounds and next steps
The brief hearing was told Mr Dooley, of Stockbridge Village, was a student and Mr Shackleton-Brady, from Dovecot, was a warehouse operative. Mr Diggle, of West Derby, and Mr Roberts, of Dovecot, were both unemployed.
Ms Bhardwaj formally opened the inquests and suspended them to await the outcome of criminal proceedings. James Diggle, 27, of Alundale Road, West Derby, has been charged with four counts of aiding and abetting causing death by dangerous driving and is due to appear at Liverpool Crown Court next month.
