A hotel owner has appeared in court charged with health and safety breaches following the death of an X Factor star's fiancé, who fell from a third-floor window.

Marcus de Lannoy Holden, 57, of Shennington, Banbury, Oxon, faced Northampton Magistrates' Court in July over allegations that windows at the Hind Hotel in Wellingborough, Northants, posed a risk to guests. The charges relate to the death of Olly Marmon, 33, who fell from the hotel in August 2024 and died despite emergency services arriving at 11:30pm that night.
Court documents describe the first charge as failing to ensure that windows capable of being opened were likely to be opened, closed, or adjusted in a manner that did not expose anyone to a risk to their health or safety. A second charge alleges contravention of an improvement notice by failing to undertake a risk assessment of the condition and safe operation of all windows to eliminate the risk of people falling from them.
Holden is also charged with failing to ensure the health and safety of his employees by neglect, specifically failing to ensure they were not exposed to risks. He entered no plea and was granted bail to obtain legal advice, with the case adjourned to October.
Background and tributes
Olly, a hairdresser who recently worked alongside his stepdad in gardening, met Jaymi when he was 18. The couple had been together for 15 years and were weeks away from their wedding. Jaymi rose to fame on the ITV talent show in 2011 as part of boyband Union J.
Following the tragedy, Olly's family paid tribute. His mum Julie and stepdad Steve Peacock said "words cannot express the devastation and heartbreak" they felt. Julie wrote: "Oliver was so caring, loving, quiet and always put others before himself", adding: "He touched many lives and everyone he met fell in love with him."
His brother Ben called him his "little ray of sunshine" and added: "You are my best friend. You radiate joy and excitement to all around you. You are full of creativity and spontaneous ideas for fun."
