A large fire broke out behind a Jewish supermarket in Golders Green, north London, early this morning (May 27). Thick plumes of smoke were seen billowing from the scene on Golders Green Road, prompting dozens of calls to the London Fire Brigade.
The blaze, which started in a building behind Kosher Kingdom supermarket, was first reported at 6.47am. Around 100 firefighters and 15 fire engines from Finchley, Willesden, West Hampstead and other stations have been deployed. A 32-metre turntable ladder is also in use.
London Fire Brigade urged residents to keep windows and doors shut due to the significant smoke. Road closures are in place on Golders Green Road near Beverley Gardens. The cause of the fire is not yet known.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said officers were called at around 7am to assist with road closures and evacuations. No injuries have been reported. The incident is ongoing.
