A significant fire has erupted at a three-storey building in Golders Green, North London, prompting the London Fire Brigade to advise local residents to close their windows due to heavy smoke.
Blaze at Kosher Supermarket
The fire broke out at a kosher supermarket located on Golders Green Road. The cause of the blaze remains unknown at this time. Fire crews responded swiftly after receiving the first of 33 calls at 0647 BST.
London Fire Brigade Statement
The London Fire Brigade (LFB) confirmed that firefighters are currently tackling the fire. In a statement, LFB said: "Firefighters are currently responding to a fire on Golders Green Road in Golders Green. The fire has occurred by a building which is three storeys, with a shop on the ground floor and premises above."
The Brigade added: "The fire is producing a significant amount of smoke and we're advising people in the area to keep their windows and doors shut at this time. A number of road closures are in place, including on Golders Green Road near the junction with Beverley Gardens. Please avoid the area whilst firefighters work to extinguish the fire."
Response Details
Control Officers have mobilised ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters from Finchley, Willesden, West Hampstead and surrounding fire stations to the scene. A 32-metre turntable ladder is also in attendance to assist with the operation.
Authorities have urged the public to avoid the area as emergency services work to bring the fire under control. Further updates are expected as the situation develops.
