Police have recovered the body of an 11-year-old girl from water near a woodland park in Scotland.
Discovery in Gore Water
Officers were called to the Gore Glen area, near Gorebridge in Midlothian, at around 12:40pm on Thursday after concerns were raised for the girl. Her body was found in the Gore Water near Shanks Bridge at approximately 4:25pm.
The girl was pronounced dead at the scene, and her family has been informed.
Investigation Underway
Police are treating the death as unexplained, and a full investigation has been launched to establish the circumstances.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We were made aware of concern for an 11-year-old girl in the Gore Glen area, near Gorebridge around 12.40pm on Thursday, 6 August, 2026. The body of the girl was found in the Gore Water near to Shanks Bridge around 4.25pm. She was pronounced dead at the scene and her family are aware. Her death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances."
