A French national has been charged with the murder and rape of his two-year-old daughter after her body was discovered at a property in Chertsey, Surrey. Kevin Kerjean, 31, who was born in the Central African Republic, appeared at Guildford Crown Court on Saturday charged with murder, rape of a child under 13, and sexual assault of a child under 13.
Court appearance and remand
Kerjean was remanded in custody following the hearing and is scheduled to appear again at Guildford Crown Court on Monday, 14 September. Surrey Police confirmed that the victim was Kerjean's daughter.
Police response to concern for safety
Officers were called to an address in Pyrcroft Road, Chertsey, at approximately 5:40pm on Thursday, 25 June, after receiving reports of a concern for safety. Upon arrival, the two-year-old girl was found dead inside the property. Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death.
Detective statement on tragic incident
Detective Chief Superintendent Jon Groenen expressed condolences to the family, stating: “This is a tragic incident, and our thoughts are with the child’s mother and extended family, as well as all those who knew her.” He added that a significant police presence will remain in Pyrcroft Road in the coming days as the investigation proceeds, and thanked residents for their cooperation.
