Zoe Marie Dixon, 35, from Merthyr Tydfil, died in hospital six days after sustaining a blunt head injury including a skull fracture. Her family have described her as "a much-loved mum, daughter, sister, and friend."
Police Confirm Homicide Investigation
South Wales Police has confirmed that the investigation into the serious assault of Ms Dixon is now being treated as homicide. An inquest was opened at Pontypridd Coroners' Court on Thursday, where it was heard that Ms Dixon was admitted to the University Hospital of Wales (UHW) on Tuesday, June 16, with head injuries after emergency services were called to a house in Rocky Road, Merthyr Tydfil.
Partner Found Dead
Her partner, Nathan Thomas, 39, was later found deceased at Pontsticill Reservoir in Bannau Brycheiniog National Park. Police have confirmed they are not seeking anyone else in connection with the incident.
Family Statement
In a statement released on Friday, South Wales Police said: "Shortly before midnight on Monday, June 15, emergency services were called to an address in Rocky Road whereby a 35-year-old woman was conveyed to the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, for treatment following a serious assault. Subsequently in the early hours of Tuesday, June 16, a 39-year-old man was found deceased at Pontsticill Reservoir in Bannau Brycheiniog National Park. On Monday, June 22, it was confirmed that despite the best efforts of medical staff the female, who can now be named as Zoe Dixon, has sadly passed away. Zoe’s family are being supported by specially-trained officers. Police are not seeking anyone in relation to this incident. Police can confirm the 39-year-old male is named as Nathan Thomas, the long-term partner of Zoe."
Detective Chief Inspector Claire Lamerton confirmed the major crime investigation team is supporting the coronial investigation into Ms Dixon's death. The statement added: "On behalf of Zoe’s family we ask that their privacy be respected during this extremely difficult time whilst they mourn the loss of a much-loved mother, daughter, sister, and friend to many."
