A motorist who deliberately caused a crash by faking a brake failure on a motorway has been jailed for four years. The incident, which took place on the M1, resulted in multiple injuries and significant damage.

The driver, 34-year-old James Smith from Birmingham, was found to have intentionally slammed on the brakes while travelling at high speed, causing a multi-vehicle pile-up. Several people were injured, with two suffering serious injuries.
Investigation and sentencing
Police investigation revealed that the brake failure was staged, with evidence showing the driver had planned the incident. Smith was arrested and charged with dangerous driving and causing grievous bodily harm.
At Birmingham Crown Court, Smith was sentenced to four years in prison and was disqualified from driving for five years. The judge condemned his actions as "reckless and dangerous", stating that he had put many lives at risk.
