Police have launched an investigation after a daylight shooting in Barcelona left a man with a head injury. The incident occurred on Carrer de Balmes, a central street in the Spanish city, at approximately 10:00 local time (09:00 BST).
Shooting details
The victim was shot in the head on the street, in front of the National Police's DNI office, which issues ID cards and passports. The gunman fled the scene, and a firearm was recovered by authorities. The Catalan police, along with agents from the Criminal Investigation Division (DIC), have taken over the investigation.

A law enforcement operation is underway to track down the suspect. Barcelona is on high alert due to an upcoming visit from Pope Leo XIV later today.

This shooting comes just three days after a man was shot dead in the Zona Franca area of Barcelona. Police are investigating that case as a revenge execution linked to drug trafficking, according to local reports.
