A murder investigation has been launched in Darlington after a woman was found dead at a property in Parkgate. Emergency services were called to the address at around 9.15pm on Wednesday, September 23, where the woman, believed to be in her 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two men arrested
Two men have been taken into custody in connection with the incident. A 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder, and a 27-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. Both suspects remain in police custody.
A police cordon has been established on Parkgate, in the vicinity of The Greyhound pub, while forensic officers carry out investigations at the scene. Specialist crime scene investigators are currently examining the location, and officers are conducting enquiries in the area.
Police statement
A Durham Constabulary spokesperson said: "A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman was found dead in Darlington last night (Wednesday, September 23). Officers were called to an address in Parkgate at about 9.15pm. Sadly, a woman was pronounced dead at the scene."
The spokesperson added: "Formal identification has yet to take place, but it is believed to be a woman in her 40s. An investigation has been launched, and two men have been arrested – a 44-year-old on suspicion of murder, and a 27-year-old on suspicion of assisting an offender. Both men have been taken into police custody where they remain.
"Specialist crime scene investigators are currently examining the scene, and officers are carrying out enquiries in the area. A cordon is in place at the scene and is expected to remain for some time."
Appeal for information
Members of the public with any information about the incident are asked to contact Durham Constabulary on 101, quoting incident number 521 of September 23. Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
A representative from the North East Ambulance Service confirmed they received a call to a residential property at 9.15pm. "We dispatched one ambulance crew, one clinical team leader and one duty officer," they stated.
